Biography of Jean

Jean Dahrieh, founder of Art & Wine,

He is a painter and sculptor who, with his works, beautifies homes and public places around the world. During his childhood in Lebanon, his homeland, he discovered that he wanted to be an artist at an early age. His source of inspiration: Leonardo.

But not the Leonardo you imagine!

“I was eleven years old when I saw the movie Titanic. One of my favorite scenes was when Jack, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, was sketching Rose. I was amazed at the way he used art to capture the beauty and essence of his beloved.”

And that very night, Jean made his first sketch: he drew the “artist” he had seen on screen; the source of his inspiration. His drawing of Leonardo Di Caprio turned out to be so impressive and realistic, that his little brother took it to school the next day to show his friends. Unfortunately, he lost the dibujo and was never found again. But that seed had already been planted, and from that day on he set out to pursue his passion.

Jean the artist

A golden opportunity opened the doors for him to turn his passion into a way of life. After seeing his works, a singer asked him to paint live alongside him at a concert. It was a unique opportunity that gave Jean a platform for thousands of people to see his works. Thanks to that performance, he began to receive offers of events where he could show his work, as well as invitations to television shows with live painting and requests for portraits for various celebrities.

Early career:

While Jean was attending university, his father decided to foster his talent by sending him to be taught by a local painter, Pierre Chedid. Jean was so keen to learn as much as he could that he would often spend entire days and nights in the studio, watching and helping as he gained experience. He later moved to another studio, where the teacher invited him to help paint the walls of various churches, villas and castles, thus giving him the chance to study new techniques and gain further experience. As he continued to learn, his own paintings became increasingly sophisticated in style and technique, and he began to gain local recognition as an artist.

Barcelona & Art & Wine

Jean moved to Barcelona in 2010, where he continued to pursue his passion for painting. Since then, he has exhibited his work in important galleries and events in the city and has also carried out commissions in more distant places, such as the mural painting on the wall of a bar in Geneva (click here to see the result). After five years living in Barcelona, he was finally able to work and live as a full-time artist.

In 2018, Jean decided to open a painting class. Not only does he aim to offer an experience of disconnection and relaxation while learning a new skill, but he also seeks to share his passion. As he says: “I remember how I felt all those years ago, the first time I saw my drawing on paper; a feeling of success seeing what I had created. And I want to share that feeling with other people. Everyone has the ability to be creative. They just need the key to unlock their creativity. And I am here to give it to them.”
